The mental body was designed to be the chalice of the Mind of God through Christ. When the vanities of worldly wisdom fill the mental body, the carnal mind displaces the Christ image. Until quickened, it remains the vehicle for the carnal mind and is referred to as the ‘lower’ mental body—the lower, limited, self-limiting mortal mind—in contrast to the ‘higher’ mind, or the Mind of Christ.
