Mudra

From TSL Encyclopedia

The use of the hands in symbolic gestures in order to release light for a specific purpose. The hands with their five fingers contain sacred centers that contain a power for healing and sending forth of blessing. Therefore, combining a mantra with a mudra gives the power of the throat center, which is one of the seven rays, and the power of the release of the five secret rays, which are anchored in the hands.

Buddhist monk and scholar Sangharakshita describes the Buddhist tradition that “by repeating the mantra and assuming the mudrā of any Buddha or Bodhisattva ... one can not only place oneself in correspondence or alignment with the particular order of reality which he personifies but also be infused with its transcendental power.”[1]
